Murder at the Black Horse Inn
In its prime, The
Black Horse inn was notoriously known to be crawling with many
figures in the mafia. The men would gather regularly to drink and
do business. The night of July 22nd started like any other night.
The usual men gathered in their usual bar and went about their
usual business. Saverio Damiano AKA Johnny Farrara or even more
infamously Johnny “The Wop” Steps into the phone booth to make a
call. An unknown suspect bursts into the room and opens fire on
Johnny. He falls down the basement steps, crawls around the corner,
and dies on the floor. Almost immediately all witnesses flee
the scene, and the murder of Johnny is forever
unsolved.
Gangster Saverio Damiano was shot in the phone booth
on July 22, 1928 at approximately 9 pm, his lifeless body
was discovered two days later by a delivery guy who had thought
that he had stepped on a sack of potato's,instead it was Johnny's
body. It was believed that he was on the phone with gangster Sam
Scalleat. Below is an actual crime scene photo of
Johnny.

Flash forward 81 years later, and where the
Black Horse Inn once was, you will find a charming diner and bar
owned by Al and Maria Stempo that is now called Stemie’s Place. Al
and Maria purchased the building in the hopes of bringing the place
back to the staple in the community it once was. Not soon
after they purchased the building, strange things began to happen.
The staff members saw shadows walking through the restaurant and
basement. Al witnesses a large black dog go into the basement, but
could not find it upon investigating. Items are moving in the
kitchen. The jukebox is taking on a life of its own. Something
strange is going on. Maria’s sister brings her dog to the property,
and the dog is abnormally skiddish. He is seeing things and is
barking at things that are not there. Al and Maria’s dog is also
strangely uncomfortable in the building. Al and Maria decide to
take action. Word begins to travel, and Picture Shack Productions
gets wind of the case. They immediately got in thouch with NEPA
Paranormal and asked us if we could help. In another twist of
events, they asked if they could film our adventures for Animal
Planet’s new TV series “The Haunted”. We were all very excited
about the prospect of filming a national TV show, but a t the same
time, we knew there was a situation, and we had clients who needed
our help, so we rolled up our sleeves and immediately got to
work.
We did two incredibly detailed investigations
at the place, the second one on that date of Jully 22nd 2009.
Exactly 81 years to the date of when Johnny was
shot.

Conclusion: after much strenuous and tiring work,
we firmly believe Stemie’s Place was haunted by the spirit of
Johnny, but we also believed we did cross him over that night of
his 81st anniversary. It was a very emotional case for us. We were
all very saddened by the fact that Johnny was forced to relive his
experience year after year, but we have found our silver lining in
the fact that he now rests in a better place.
NEPA Paranormal
would like to thank all who were involved in NEPA
Paranormal's clip from "The Haunted"
making
this show a possibility. First all the producers were lucky enough
to work with at Picture Shack. You were all such nice people and
made this experience into something so much fun, and something we
will never forget.
Also thank you to Al and Maria Stempo who were
gracious enough to let us into their establishment, and share with
us all the stories and history that came along with it. You were
both so accommodating, and we had such a great time in our
investigations. We will definitely be back again, only this time we
will come for the food, not the ghosts.
Our show on Animal Planet came out so great,
and we are all so thankful for the entire experience. Thank you to
all who tuned in, and for those who didn’t, keep checking the
Animal Planet’s listing for a repeat, check out the clips on both
our site or Animal Planets.
